Music is provided by the Chancel Choir accompanied by organist/pianist Althea Waites at Sunday morning services, 8:30am and 10:00 am.
Music for the Sunday evening 5:30pm casual Third Service is provided by the 5-member Third Service Ensemble.

Sunday Services
Rolling Hills United Methodist Church offers three Sunday services.
Sunday Morning Services (8:30am and 10:00am)
Music at our two morning services is led by our excellent and joyful Cancel Choir and accompanied by organ and piano. Some people would call them traditional, because the choir and ministers wear robes most Sunday mornings. But the services are warm and welcoming, and live in a spirit of grace. The sermon deals with the humor, struggle and drama of scripture, and is relevant to our daily lives. We invite the joys and concerns of those present each week and include those in our prayers together. It is a time when hearts and voices of all ages join together, giving thanks for the hope that is ours in Jesus Christ. There are nursery care and Sunday School through elementary school (5th grade) at 8:30a.m., and through middle school (up to 8th grade) at 10 a.m.
Sunday Evening Service (Third Service) 5:30pm
Third Service is less formal than a typical Sunday morning. Dress is casual, and no robes are worn. Music is provided by our 5-member Third Service Ensemble, which offers 4-part harmony accompanied by guitar, bass, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, piano, and percussion. Like the morning services, the feeling is warm and welcoming. The sermon is the same as morning services. Whether you're on your way home from a day at the beach, slept in that morning, or just are looking for a change of pace, this could be the place for you. Like the 8:30a.m. service, there are nursery care and Sunday School through elementary school (grade 5).
Sunday School
We love kids, and our children's program is staffed with caring and gifted leaders. Sunday School is offered for children, age 3 through 5th grade at every service and, additionally, at the 10:00am service for middle school students (grades 6 - 8). Children join their parents for the beginning of the worship service, then are invited to join the pastor at the front of the sanctuary for Children's Time, a short children's lesson.
After this lesson, children leave the worship service to go to age-grouped Sunday School classes where they will explore the same Bible stories as covered in the Sanctuary worship service.
Our Sunday School program for middle school youth is available during our 10 am morning worship services. After the
Children's sermon in the sanctuary, the youth are invited to head to the Youth Lounge to explore their relationship
with God through lessons, activities, games and discussion.
In addition, middle school and high school youth are always welcome in any church service. Parents who wish to keep their younger children with them are welcome to do so as well.

Nursery & Child Care
Your children are important to us. Nursery care is provided each Sunday for infants and children up through age two. There is also a Cry Room for parents who wish to keep their preschool age children with them. From there you can both see and hear the service in a soundproof environment, and restroom and changing facilities are provided for your convenience.
Child care is staffed by adults who have at least two years of practical experience and have been screened. Teenage attendants assist the adult staff. On Sunday mornings, nursery care is available for children from birth to two years of age. Each parent is issued a vibrating pager so that they may be called from anywhere on campus. Child care is offered for all ages at special events and meetings.
Would You Like to Participate in Worship Services?
Adult Participation in Services - Liturgists
Everyone who becomes a part of our church family is welcomed and encouraged to take an active part in conducting worship. For example, lay members read the scripture-of-the-day, lead prayer, and assist with communion. Call the church office (310-377-6771) for more information.
Children and Youth Participation in Services
Acolytes - Grades 4 - 8
Everyone who becomes a part of our church family is welcomed and encouraged to take an active part in conducting worship. The children are no exception. There are several avenues for children to learn about and participate in the worship service.
Acolytes- Children in 4TH through 8TH Grade are eligible to act as Acolytes for each of the morning services during the school year (off in July and August). Their task includes lighting and extinguishing the altar candles, receiving the offering, and assisting in baptism and communion.
4 PM Christmas Eve Service
This service is led in great part by the children including liturgy, singing, and acting out the Nativity story.
Confirmation Classes for High School Youth
Confirmation classes are offered for youth who wish to explore their own faith more fully. These cover the history of the Christian Church, the life of Jesus, the history and theology of the United Methodist Church, and help youth to apply what they are learning to everyday living. These classes are usually offered in the Spring, and allow youth to become members of the church in their own right if they choose to do so. Confirmation classes will be led by our pastoral staff and other leaders in the congregation.
For more information about Confirmation Classes, contact John Kwan, Associate Pastor, at 310-377-6771 or email
