United Methodist Women's Groups
RHUMC United Methodist Women offer a variety of Women's Circles, including Agape Circle, Martha Circle, Naomi Circle, Ruth Circle, and Sister Circle, as well as the UMW Mission Giving group, and several other fellowship and service groups, including Crafters, Evening Mom's Fellowship, and Shawl Knitting groups. For more information about any of our women's groups, call the church office (310-377-6771).
The United Methodist Women are a community of women who are:
Faithful - Purposeful - Supportive - Responsive - Global - Unique
Who Is a Member?
UMW is open to any woman who commits herself to the Purpose and chooses to belong. If you seek a fuller participation in our Community of Faith, consider becoming a part of Rolling Hills United Methodist Women.
The most typical way of participation is to visit, select and join one or more of our many "Circles." There you will find friendship, fellowship and support that will be difficult to duplicate anywhere else in your busy or not so busy life. Small groups of women typically meet once a month and share an hour or two of their particular agenda. It is always fun, often inspiring and never boring.
For more information about the opportunities to participate, click on individual Circles under Women's Groups in the list to the left. You may also check the Upcoming Events page of this website or the Church Bulletin in Sunday's worship service program for meeting times and places of the different circles. Of course, you may call the Church Office (310-377-6771) any time for information. If you are interested in starting a new circle, we would be happy to help you with that as well.

Women's Circles at RHUMC
Agape Circle
We share our joys and concerns, swap books and recipes, and discuss the miracles we experience and God's hand in our lives.
We typically meet on the third Monday of the month in the evening. Check the Upcoming Events page of this website, the Church Bulletin inserted in the Sunday Worship Service program, or call the Church Office (310-377-6771) for more information about meeting times and places.
Crafters
Crafters work year round on the items sold at the annual fall fundraising bazaar. We enjoy each other's fellowship and often learn new skills.
We often meet on Wednesday afternoons at Lucy Ford's home, but the dates can change. Contact Lucy for details.
Evening Mom's Fellowship
We gather at 7:30pm for dinner at the Red Onion on Silver Spur Road in Palos Verdes. We spend a time of sharing and support through conversation and much laughter.
Our date varies each month. Contact Kathy Platnick, Susan Welch, or Lisa Williams for details.
Martha Circle
Our purpose is to enrich our spiritual growth through learning about ourselves, our church and the missions it supports in our community and the world.
We meed the second Monday of each month from 1 - 3 pm in the Aldersgate Room off the Sanctuary's Narthex. Check the Upcoming Events page of this website, the Church Bulletin inserted in the Sunday Worship Service program, or call the Church Office (310-377-6771) for more information.
UMW Mission Giving
We expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. Some of the mission work we support with funds raised during the year are:
- Community Helpline, which trains adult and teenage volunteers to provide a confidential listening and referral toll-free telephone service for callers in crisis or need.
- Harbor Area Halfway House, which is designed to help those recovering from various addictions to achieve long term recovery.
- Harbor Interfaith, which empowers homeless and working poor to achieve self-sufficiency by providing support services such as shelter, transitional housing, food, job placement, advocacy, childcare, education and life-skills training.
- Rainbow Services, which is part of a network providing support and assistance to women and children dealing with family violence
- RHUMC Kid Zone Scholarship Fund. Kid Zone provides after school enrichment, care and homework help.
- SART - Sexual Assault Response Team - spearheaded by Little Company of Mary and local law enforcement agencies, SART coordinates immediate and long-term medical care, advocacy, counseling and criminal justice services to sexual assault survivors.
- SHAWL - Support Harbor Area Women's Lives - which serves those addicted to drugs and alcohol or on medications for such conditions as depression and bi-polar. SHAWL provides a six-month residential program.
- Sierra Service Project - In 2009, the project organized a trip for middle- and high-school-age participants to the Round Valley Indian Reservation to provide help complete several construction projects.

Naomi Circle
We offer fellowship and nurture to single women. We also support the United Methodist Women and the church in their endeavors.
We meet the third Monday of each month at 6:30pm at Lucy Ford's home. Contact Marcia Daly for details.
Ruth Circle
We hold educational programs that inspire and encourage individual spiritual growth. We also are constantly seeking to be supportive of one another's pains as well as joys. There is truly a warm bonding among our group.
Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month, September through June, at 10:30am in the Mission Room. We join all other Circles whenever there is a General Meeting. Each of our meetings is followed by a group luncheon at various local restaurants, except for December and June, when we celebrate our sisterhood by sharing a potluck luncheon.
Each September, we look forward to the return of all current members as well as welcoming new faces. For more information, contact Ruth Fuller or Norma Jenkins.
Shawl Knitting
We knit shawls for those in bereavement, ill or in need of some TLC. We will teach knitting to anyone wanting to learn.
We meet on some Wednesdays from 11am - 12noon in the Brides Room at RHUMC. Check with Lucy Ford or Karen Sakura for more information.
Sister Circle
We are a busy group of women who seek refuge in a few hours of nurture and support through Bible study, crafts, social activities and the care and support of each other. We reach out with financial support and gifts to our church and local charities with an emphasis on helping women.
We meed year-round on the second Monday of each month at 7pm, usually in the Aldersgate Room, but occasionally in member's homes or a nearby restaurant. There is always an empty chair waiting for visitors and new members. Contact Patty Koester for details.
