Health and Wellness Ministry
Welcome! Health and Wellness Ministry includes the parish nurse and the Health and Wellness Committee, whose members are assigned by the church. Newcomers are also welcome. Our goal is to help members of the church and community achieve the fullness of life as promised by God. We advocate wellness of mind, body and spirit.
The parish nurse, Marian Komori RN, BSN, is on staff part-time. She is generally at RHUMC on Mondays and Wednesdays. She works closely with the committee to plan and promote activities. Contact her at .

Physical Exercise Classes
RHUMC offers several physical exercise and well-being classes for adults. Please click here for more information.
Health Screening
Blood pressure screenings are done after morning services on the first and third Sundays. Evening screenings are done after
Third Service on the third Sunday.
Memory screening is done in November in conjunction with the Alzheimer Foundation.
The last bone marrow screening was done in October 2009.
Health Education
Informational sessions are planned periodically. Recent topics have included Hospice and the DASH diet and lifestyle to overcome hypertension. Sessions may be held in the evenings or at mid-day (Brown Bag Lunch) sessions. When scheduled, the details are posted in the Weekly Church Bulletin inserted in Sunday morning service programs and on the Upcoming Events page of this website.
Multimedia and printed resource materials are availabe in the nurse's office and may be borrowed.
CPR/AED and First Aid Classes are scheduled annually for church staff and members. On request, the nurse is available to provide other information to church staff and members.
Care Notes are available on subjects applicable to adults, teens and children. These booklets offer suggestions for coping with various situations.
The Nurse Visits those who are Hospitalized, Homebound or Ill.
Medical Equipment Availability
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is located on the wall in the church office. It is part of Torrance Memorial Medical Center's Public Access Defibrillator program.
Loan Library: Current supplies including wheelchairs, walkers, canes, commodes, and crutches can be borrowed by those in need of them. We also have a mobility scooter and trailer, which can be useful for someone with a foot injury. Donations are welcomed.
First Aid Kits are available in the Welcome Center, Education Office, Kitchen, KidZone and Preschool areas.
Health Counseling and Referral for resources is done on a one-to-one basis.
Nursery Parent Education
A Christian based parent education curriculum is offered to parents of newborns and is continued until the child is 3 years of age. The "Growing in Christ" program consists of music, booklets and brochures about normal growth and development with Christian guidelines. Information appropriate to the age of the child is mailed to parents periodically according to a schedule.
American Red Cross Blood Drive
Since 1994, RHUMC has hosted a Good Friday Blood Drive. Church members, neighboring churches and the general community are invited to participate on this symbolically significant day in the Christian year.
